Complicité is an original work by Pauline Larouche that celebrates childhood, imagination, and the richness of memories. Created in 1996 with acrylic on canvas, this figurative painting has a unique story. Following an exhibition opening, the artist invited visitors to spontaneously create a drawing on a large canvas. From this mosaic of lines, shapes, and ideas emerged this composition where each element tells a fragment of a story.
The silhouettes of the two children first emerged naturally from among the drawings. Pauline Larouche then chose to preserve several sketches as transparent overlays. Various patterns integrated into the jacket and sweater of the main character are still visible, bearing witness to the collective creativity that gave birth to this work.
The eye then wanders among a multitude of details: a boat, a shell, a teddy bear, an aquarium filled with fish, wallpaper, and several hidden elements that invite observation. Each discovery enriches the experience and reveals a new facet of the work.
The turquoise, blue-green, pink, and gray hues create a soft, dreamy atmosphere where reality blends with imagination. This layering of textures, transparencies, and symbols perfectly illustrates Pauline Larouche's artistic approach, which transforms traces of everyday life into profoundly human works.
Complicité is a painting that transcends time without losing its emotional power. It evokes family ties, the passing down of traditions, childhood memories, and shared creativity. This original work will appeal to collectors of Quebec art as well as contemporary art enthusiasts seeking an authentic creation, rich in history and emotion.
