Blue Christmas is an original acrylic painting on canvas created in 1997 by Pauline Larouche . This 16 x 20-inch painting, sold unframed and ready to hang , is part of the Winter Character series . Inspired by the historic village of Val-Jalbert in the Lac-Saint-Jean region, this painting poetically evokes old Quebec traditions and the magic of Christmas celebrations in a snowy landscape.

Created as part of a competition to illustrate a Christmas album cover , this artwork transports the viewer to a time when families walked to midnight mass . Under a deep blue moonlit sky, streetlights cast a warm glow that guides people through the snow-covered streets. In the foreground, a majestic, decorated Christmas tree brings together young and old in a scene imbued with gentleness, peace, and nostalgia.

The shades of blue, white, and gold create a magical atmosphere where the silence of winter seems to envelop the village. The delicately painted figures invite the viewer to relive memories of Christmases past, when traditions, family, and community held a central place.

This painting will appeal to lovers of Quebec art, winter landscapes, and heritage scenes. It also makes a wonderful gift for those who wish to keep a memento of Lac-Saint-Jean , the Val-Jalbert Historic Village , or Quebec Christmas traditions.
